St Kitts is one of the most attractive touristic destinations in the Caribbean Sea. Although just 65 square miles big, the island is full of stunning destinations and is surrounded by the fabulous Caribbean Sea, the place to go for any sun and fun enthusiast this side of the living world. Together with Nevis, St Kitts forms the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, a collection of islands that have as their primary activity tourism, of course. Basically, you can go to St Kitts at any time during the year, as the tropical climate is great for swimming, tanning, going diving or just enjoying a fabulous natural setting, which includes the all-time favorite of whale watching.
Although quite small in comparison with many surrounding Caribbean countries, St Kitts has some aces up its sleeve it can be proud of. First, the island is the smallest country to ever host a World Cup event, namely the 2007 Cricket World Cup, held on the Warner Park Cricket Stadium. Also, Brimstone Hill National Park, which is under UNESO supervision, is the largest fort to ever be built in the Eastern Caribbean. The fort was built around 1690 by the British, who were fighting the French in the region for supremacy. It is one of the best preserved fort in the Americas and today can be visited by anyone curios about military history or just about the way of life of people many hundreds of years ago. If you’re more on the adventurous side, you can give Fort Charles a visit as well. Abandoned by the British Army in the 19th century, the location was later used as a leper asylum. Right now, the fort is abandoned and was overtaken by wild vegetation, but can be a stupendous destination if you’re into that kind of exploring.
St Kitts is not just a touristic destination, but a place where you can fulfill yourself as a healthcare professional, as many dental and general medicine universities have branches in the islands. Not a bad place to go to school at all. The country’s main source of income is of course tourism, with this industry growing exponentially in the last 20 years. No wonder that the capital of St Kitts and Nevis, Basseterre, has a fabulous harbor, which was especially designed to handle large cruise ships. You know those big cruise ships saying “stopping in fabulous resorts across the Caribbean”? Well, Basseterre is on that list. Although as stunning as other islands in the area, St Kitts is more affordable than many of the more posh destinations in the area. There are many residential projects under development and enough villas and hotels to host many tourists, but the prices are considerably lower than the competition. As St Kitts and Nevis is building a reputation as a great touristic attraction, it’s only natural to have more affordable prices than more established destinations. Even so, you get some fabulous beaches, world class hotels and service and the possibility to explore a great area of the Caribbean.
St Kitts is host to an international pop music festival every year, during the summer, with acts like Michael Bolton or Ja-rule being present in 2008 and 2009. St Kitts private jet charter is a very convenient way to get on the island, as the International Airport on the island accommodates this kind of service. Major airlines like Air Canada, British Airways and US Airways also operate in St Kitts.
